We’re in August Already!

And it seems like the whole nation is gripped by Olympics fever.  I’m certainly enjoying them far more than I thought I would.  Not surprising though when Team GB is doing so well!  Gymnastics is my favourite sport.  Didn’t our Men’s team do well winning our first Olympic medal in the sport for 100 years!  I was on the edge of my seat most of the time watching that event take place!

On Wednesday I got the train into Manchester where I met my lovely cousin, Sylvia, for an afternoon of shopping and catching up with each other’s doings.

These colourful patriotic deckchairs were lined up in Exchange Square…

…where shoppers, workers and visitors to the city can sit and watch the Olympics on a big screen.  Sadly the weather wasn’t up to much on Wednesday so not many seats were occupied.

Of course when Sylvia and I meet up a cup of coffee or two is always on the agenda.  This time around Afternoon Tea in Marks and Spencer’s fitted the bill.

Victoria had asked me to look after George and Nicholas for a couple of hours today.  So with the sun shining we packed a rucksack with necessities (a towel, change of clothes, drinks, camera etc.) and set off for a walk through Ealees.  George volunteered to carry the rucksack for me – it was quite heavy and he carried it all the way too.

Ealees is always popular with the boys.  A stream runs through it, need I say more?

George pointed out this scene as being worthy of a photo.  He was right.

This of course is not a scene from this afternoon’s walk.  This is Beer beach and that is a swan!  I’ve never seen a swan on sea water before.  I’ve just looked it up on the ‘net and apparently swans on saltwater is not unheard of, just not an everyday thing.

I’m wading through my holiday photos and intend to post them ASAP.

Kathleen.

Sounds like you had a nice day with your cousin. I think it would be cool to sit outside on a nice day and watch the Olympics on those big screens. I think Ealees would be popular with me, too. Just being able to enjoy the outdoors and walk would be enough for me. :) Have a great new week. Tammy

Gaming has truly become a hobby for anyone with interests that run the full gamut. Video games are a great way to just have some fun and relax once in awhile. The following paragraphs have some really good ideas regarding video gaming, so pay attention!

If you are thinking about buying some new games, join a discussion forum where gamers share reviews of their favorite games. Such forums can provide great information. You will find straight forward reviews that can help you determine whether or not to purchase a product. They write reviews that are honest and can be trusted.

Try to limit gaming to no more than a few hours per day maximum. There is no doubt that gaming is addictive, and this has become a real problem for many people. Try to stick to playing computer games for only a few hours each day. If you're someone who plays long hours, then it's best to take plenty of breaks during the day.

Make the screen brighter. If you can't see the game, you won't be able to play well. You may find that you're frequently being attacked because you can't see. Increase the brightness so you do not miss anything, even if it ruins the dark atmosphere of the game. It will make the colors easier to distinguish and you'll be able to spot your enemies before they spot you.

Spend quality time with your children by taking on a online game that you both enjoy. Many kids really enjoy playing games on their computers and video consoles. There is a lot to learn from playing online games. You can find games that are educational to teach them as well as help them learn the skill of hand-eye coordination.

When buying for children it is important to check ESRB ratings. Some games may look like they are aimed at children but have objectionable content that is not apparent from the box or other promotional materials. Check the rating and read some reviews to see what others say.

Get up frequently as you play a game. If you do not take breaks, your body will remain stuck in the same position. Additionally, if you sit immobile for long periods of times, you will get cramps and perhaps even blood clots. Your body will thank you for your efforts.

Think about going to a gaming arcade in another town. Some people just like to game at home using personal consoles. But it can be fun to get out of the house and join in the communal activities that an arcade offers. You can socialize and take friends with you. You can meet new people with similar interests.

When someone wants to purchase a video game system, there are plenty of choices. Be sure to research and read reviews before deciding which system you prefer. It is important to know if the company carries a majority of titles that your family will enjoy. When you have chosen a system, look at how much memory this system has. There are many download options for most games and this content can fill a hard drive quickly. To make sure, buy a system that has enough memory.

It can be tempting to go all out buying expansion packs, add-ons and upgrades for your new game. This can get very pricey! Instead, be disciplined with your spending. Check out what you've got in the game you bought and only add on what you can afford.

Figure out how to operate the safety and parental controls of any gaming system that comes into your home. You can likely make adjustments that keep kids from viewing mature content. Some allow each gaming profile to be customized separately, allowing adults to enjoy games not meant for younger audiences.

There, you should now be able to start getting more out of your gaming experience since you've read this article. You will be able to make your competition quake with fear since you now quite a bit more about gaming. Just knowing a little bit can get you far in the world of gaming, even if it's just a hobby.
